One of the foundation stones of excellence thinking remains the Demming, or PDCA, cycle, first introduced in the 1950s. This basic logic still holds true today and remains embedded in the SKEA Global Excellence Model.
However, when we think about how organizations learn and develop, we need to recognise that there are multiple learning cycles happening in parallel throughout the organization; within each function, process and activity.
In reality, there is a strategic learning loop, using the outcomes achieved to review and improve the overall effectiveness of the capabilities the organization has adopted to achieve the vision and strategic goals. In parallel, and, more often than not running at a faster pace, there will be operational learning loops within each of those capabilities to optimize performance. This understanding lies at the heart of the SKEA Model.
The SKEA Improvement & Assessment Tool consists of two sections:
This section is used to assess the Capabilities Criteria (1-9) through the assessment of three main elements including assessment of Design, Deploy and Transform.
This section is used to assess the Results Criteria (10-12) through the assessment of four main elements including assessment of Comprehensive & Usability, Growth & Sustainability, Achievement and Competitiveness and Leadership
